CRESKILL, N.J.--Within a year of the inception of Classic Publications, Max Dangelico, its president, has managed to build his company to include a national clientele of more than 50 galleries while representing solely one artist.
That artist is Dangelico's father, Pino Daeni, a contemporary realist painter whose vigorous brush stroke of chiseled, romantic characters may be recognized from the shroud of several Danielle Steele romance novels.
That artist is also the reason Dangelico launched Classic Publications last year at Artexpo of recent origin York 2001. In fact, his reasons were threefold: first, his be enamoured of of art; second, his be pleased with for his father Pino; and lastly, well, sometimes artistic talent, like wealth, can skip a generation, "that's for what cause or reason I'm on the phone selling," he said.
This quick succes did not issue easily. Pino was not interested in publishing his work appropriate to previously lukewarm attempts to do in this way But Dangelico persisted and began calling galleries himself. According to Dangelico, "all you ne is the same person to say `yes,' and it creates a whole snowball effect"
Dangelico maintains that advertising is a very great part of Classic Publications success" [advertising] has helped me a parcel as far as the wholesale close of the business because it reaches all the galleries and all the dealers that I want to reach. Then I can pick and select who I want to work with. on the other hand it doesn't work if you do it just one time twice or three times. You have to be there when race are ready to buy." He added, "You have to preserve on doing it--people have to be familiar with the work. They ne to descry you over and over again to realize that you are a serious company and you are here to stay."
As for art offerings, Dangelico said descendants doesn't always triumph, and his company does not automatically get by heart priority on every piece of Pino's art. Pino has a number of galleries with which he is in a less degree than contract. However, Dangelico is able to publish prints from several of Pino's original oils that were painted prior to his contract with Classic Publications, as well as modern originals commissioned by the company.
Pino's established reputation and his career in fine art and commercial art made the road easier for Dangelico to raise his work. In 1939, Pino was born Giuseppe Dangelico in Italy and trained at as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but the Art Institute of Bari and Milan's Academy of Brera. After about success in Italy, Pino decided to immigrate to the United States in search of more artistic freedom and opportunity. The Borghi Gallery discovered him and showcased his work in several exhibitions in recently made known York and Boston.
In 1980 ravine and Zebra Book Publishers commissioned a volume cover which started an era in Pino's career he have references to as his Romance Period. His work graced the cloaks of novels by Steele, Sylvie Summerfield and Amanda Ashley. It was also at this time that Pino began using Fabio as his make submissive on many of his commissioned main division covers. But most recently, Pino has reverted to his original love of painting fine art.
Dangelico affirms that level with such an established talented artist of the like kind as Pino, marketing and promotion is fundamental note in bringing art from the artist to the persons Often times Dangelico will roll on an ad in commercial and trade magazines simply showcasing the artist with no hint to Classic Publications simply to point out the public that the artist is still around.
"There's a accident of great art out there that doesn't betray because people don't know it exists or the marketing program at various companies and dealers isn't right. They aren't tapping into the right target market. They don't know who their target audience is for that particular piece," he said.
presently Pino will no longer be the solitary beneficiary of Dangelico's business savvy. At Artexpo just discovered York this month, Classic Publications will not alone have three booths showcasing Pino and his work unless a new artist will be launched by means of the name of Berni. Berni is a still-life painter whose work will be marketed to the demographic interested in decorative art. Ten years from now Dangelico chance of a favorable results to have 20 artists of all different genre below contract with his company.
"Before, the puzzle was selling the work, now the question is getting my printer to print fast enough. I gues that's a upright problem to have," said Dangelico. He chance of a favorable results to take this success to the UK too, where he will be launching Classic Publications artists in print.
unless even with all the marketing, promoting and strategizing, Dangelico's ultimate allegiance is to his artist. "You have to preserve your artist--that's your baby, that's your production that's what gives you the opportunity to build the business. There are 8000 galleries and alone one artist. You have to restrain that in mind at all times," he said.
Dangelico had single in kind last secret to his succes "as prolonged as you're having fun you'll find a way to make it work!"
