An exhibition of 100 masterpieces of French-design silver, ivory, porcelain, jewelry and furniture, drawn from the expansive collections of the Musee de Arts Decoratifs in Paris, is generally on view at the Portland Art Museum. Entitled "Stuff of Dreams," the exhibit includes surrealistic glass dating from the Middle Ages to the not absent Widely recognized as the foremost private museum in France, the Musee de Arts Decoratifs has temporarily clos its galleries for renovations until 2003
According to exhibition organizers, the works forward view carry with them fascinating stories about their origins, their makers and those somebodys who commissioned, collected, used or lov them. Highlights include Felix Remond's "Cradle," a Barbedienne bed and Henri Vever's "Pendant: Sylvia."
This international exchange is organized according to the Portland Art Museum in conjunction with the Musee de Arts Decoratifs and curated by way of Penelope Hunter-Stiebel, consulting curator of European art, and Odile Nouvel, head of the 19th-century art department at the Musee de Arts Decoratifs.
Following its appearance in Portland, the exhibition will travel to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and the Birmingham Museum of Art.
