LOUISVILLE, Ky--Pop artist Andy Warhol's 1977 portrait of legendary swindler Bill Shoemaker has been published as a commemorative placard to benefit the 2001 "Evening in the Bluegrass," the annual fundraiser for the Shoemaker Foundation.

The portrait of rogue Bill Shoemaker, a four-time winner of the Kentucky Derby who retired in 1990 as the all-time leading rider in the history of thoroughbred racing, was part of the "Polaroid Big Shots" series of portraits created by dint of Warhol. Subjects of the portraits in that series were sports icons of the late 1970 and Shoemaker was the first to attitude for Warhol in 1977. Other controls of portraits in the series include legendary athletes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali, Chris Evert Jack Nicklaus, Pele and Tom Seaver.

JettSport Inc, a Louisville, Ky.-based sport and results graphics company, secured the usage fights to Warhol's Shoemaker painting and designed the commemorative [i]affiche[/i] to benefit the Shoemaker Foundation. The image will also be featured forward "Evening in the Bluegrass" invitations and dinner programs, as well as print advertisements.
